25 MILLION AMERICANS HAVE BINGE EATING DISORDER

More than 60% of Americans are overweight or obese and that number is on the rise.  It’s not a lack of willpower, but something much deeper, namely Binge Eating Disorder — a compulsive drive to eat as a means of coping with problems, which affects more than 25 million Americans.

This is 2.5 times as many people who struggle with Anorexia and Bulimia, which affects approximately 10 million Americans.  Anorexia is restrictive eating and very low body weight, while Bulimia is binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting.

Dr. Dorie comments, "People are losing their jobs, they can’t pay their bills, and their homes are in foreclosure.  How are they coping with this stress?  By eating large quantities of food — Binge Eating — as a means to temporarily relieve anxiety and depression."

“That 40¢ box of macaroni and cheese is one of the cheapest ‘drugs’ people can find.  But this pattern or emotional overeating can lead to obesity."

FIVE WARNING SIGNS OF
BINGE EATING DISORDER

  1. Desire to eat when feeling intense emotions, like stress

  2. Seeming unable to stop eating once you've started

  3. Quickly eating large amounts of food, usually while alone

  4. Cravings for "comfort foods," mostly starches and sweets

  5. Significant weight gain as a result of binge eating patterns

DR. DORIE HAS A
DIET-FREE SOLUTION

According to a National Research Study, about 35% of dieters show symptoms of Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder, while 30% of women trying to lose weight at weight loss centers have Binge Eating Disorder.

Dr. Dorie comments, "The solution to overcoming Binge Eating Disorder cannot be found by dieting.  In fact, diets make Binge Eating Disorder symptoms worse, because people ultimately binge on the foods they were deprived of while dieting."

THREE TIPS TO END
BINGE EATING DISORDER

  1. Learn to be an “Intuitive Eater” and avoid diet-binge extremes

  2. Express emotions in healthy ways, such as talking or journalling

  3. Make a "Treat Jar" with non-food "rewards" to self-soothe
